I really enjoyed the other two very much, but this one is with voice actors and that ruins it for me. I had to turn off the sound and you lose so much of the game with it being muted. I haven't played it through yet, but it's already a hassle and I can't enjoy the game at all. Very disappointed.EDIT: I played it through and I unlocked all the endings. The game would've been AMAZING! The story was twisted, the puzzles challenging, all the different characters in the game made it wonderfully nuanced. It gave hints to the other two games and I suppose to understand the happy end thoroughly you have to play the last game, which I am looking forward to do!The endings were the best so far, I loved all of them and the way to get the happy end was nicely thought through. It wasn't as linear as the other two before and you really had to do lots of thinking to get all the scenes. It really got me all emotional and I am not ashamed to tell that it even made me cry. What I disliked though, besides the voice acting, is that you sometimes click on things and you don't get a reaction whatsoever. This was not the case in the previous games, they would always tell you something (e.g. It's a decorative plant) or such. That annoyed me.But still, I tried turning the sound on -from time to time- but I just couldn't deal with the voice actors. I understand what they tried to do, after the playthrough I read the notes from Uri, and it was an experiment, but for me personally it just ruined the whole experience. In the end I played it through with the game being muted, which robbed me of certain noises as hints and as part of the story.Wonderful game, but I personally just can't recommend it bc of the voices.. After The Sand Man I was not sure what to expect about this game. The shift in mood and atmosphere from The Crooked Man to The Sand Man caught me off guard, and even though I am more of a fan of the horror genre, The Sand Man was a very pleasant and surreal surprise, so I was ready for anything The Boogie Man would throw at me.And we went back to Horror! First impression was, honestly, not amazing. The voice acting isn't absolutely terrible per se (but honestly would not call most of it good), what was most annoying about it was the recording quality. It gave the game a cheap feel to be honest, as if I was hearing the characters speak to me through Skype.Voice acting aside, this game has the strongest characters of the three (well, and also the most characters), including characters from the past two games. The way this game connects to the previous two games really caught me by surprise, I was very happy about how that was handled, definitely my favorite thing about this entry. The story was also very well realized, as it's been the usual in this series, but I felt like the puzzles this time around were a bit too obscure / random. I found myself having to check vgpersons' walkthrough once or twice, and the way forward was always something that honestly would not have occurred to me. Maybe if I went around hitting X (used a PS4 controller before anyone asks) on everything. Either way, that bit was a little annoying since this did not happen at all during the previous games.Overall, this is a really good entry. In terms of its placement in the series, I still hold The Crooked Man as my favorite, maybe because it was the first one, and The Sand Man has a special place in my heart because of a sudden change and great mind**** it caused me for not knowing what to expect but another horror entry. I would say this is tied with The Sand Man in my book.Check it out if it sounds good to you! Don't let the voice acting fool you in the beginning, just push through it and enjoy the game! Now onto the 4th entry.... After playing through about half of this trying to get the true ending, I eventually gave up on it because, quite frankly, it's convoluted, and I wasn't really being moved at all by the story. And even though this one is plenty violent, the way the main character reacts to everything (that is, barely emoting) just got old after a while. It does have a nice setup, with the whole murder mystery in the castle thing, but it just doesn't remain gripping enough for me to continue wanting to play. It's nice to see some of the characters from the other games here, but not only was Sophie turned into an annoying brat, but, like the last game, weirdly enough no one mentions their previous experience with these otherworldly phenomena. I don't know. I'll give the last game a shot, but so far each one has been progressively weaker and weaker for me.. Plot ####Boogie Man is trying to kill everyone. Keith needs to stop him by figuring out how to beat his traps and save everyone. Sophie and David also return.#### Gameplay ####The Boogie Man set up a huge number of puzzles throughout the castle, so this explains all the clues. But since he tries to kill everyone there's no reason for him to have set up so many puzzles or create multiple locations where Keith can learn about his wife; unless he was expecting almost all his puzzles to fail.#### Puzzles ####The puzzles are ridiculously hard, such as having to arrange 3 sheep based on a poem in another part of the castle. There's a time limit on some puzzles, so if you don't solve them before continuing with the story you can't get the best ending.#### Replayability ####There's multiple endings but they don't relate to the choices you make. Fortunately you don't have to play the whole game twice.#### Final thoughts ####I don't recommend this due to just how difficult it is to progress through this game and the very specific choices you have to make to get a good ending.. I've always been a fan of Uris game- and I first started playing the series when there was only one game available- but I can definitely say, this has to be my favourite. I enjoy the twists and turns in this one especially and the character development. Personally, I don't mind the voice acting. I've recommended the game to my SO and my friends. I can say I've played through it (and the series) several times now and haven't grown tired of it yet.. Played through this one as well and it's a really goooood one again!!I love how you see certain persons throughout the different games again. They're growing and get older if you play the games in order and this is a very good concept.(I have to admit: I love David!!! He's my favorite character with his kind and good-natured behavior XD)This game is a very good extension to the other two and it is the first fully synchronized one!!The voices of the characters are a little strange in the beginning (because the other two weren't synchronized and you had to read through all the conversations and stuff), but you learn to love each one of them!!Like I said (or tried to): totaly worth playing it!Have fun!. Without Voice Acting: 9/10, would recommend. With Voice Acting: 3/10, skip. This is a confusing game to recommend. It's quite possibly the best game so far, with better writing, graphics, plot, and setting (though the puzzles are a bit lacking compared to Crooked and Sand Man). But the voice acting is HORRENDOUS. So bad, in fact, that I uninstalled the game and downloaded a freeware version of it without VA and played THAT instead. If a patch were to be released which allows the player to disable the voice acting, then I would recommend it whole-heartedly. Unfortunately, until such a day, I honestly think you're better off looking up a freeware version of this game, even if it's a bit less polished. That said, if you ARE interested in playing, I think you should still buy the game, because it's only a few dollars and Uri (the writer) honestly deserves it. I suggest doing what I did and buying the game to have in your library, then playing a freeware version.. So first off, at the time of writing this I have played Crooked Man, Sandman and am about 2 hours in to Hanged Man, after beating this game.(I've only wrote a review for Crooked man so far though)Anyway, so first off I want to say I did enjoy the game. I'd be lying if I said I hated it or something. However, currently I'm rating it my least favorite of the "man" seires. Why? Simply because I feel it lacks the charm the others have. I feel the first two had certain elements that this one just didn't have. The Boogie Man felt way too realistic, now I bet you're saying "Why is that bad?"Well, mainly because the first two games (and already with the 4th) had a more mystic feel to them. Both the Crooked man and Sandman were interesting charcters and I felt a clear motive behind their behavior. I just... didn't feel that with this. Maybe I missed something, and maybe one of the other endings says more about the Boogie man himself. But he really didn't feel like a Boogie man. He felt like just a guy, a guy who liked making people miserable and wanted to cause problems. And beyond him saying he remembered Sofie, he didn't really have many supernatural elements going on.And maybe that was the intention, to make this game feel more real. But with such a neat concept like the Boogie man, I don't know I was just expecting more eerieness. Both Crooked man and Sandman felt a lot more intimidating as well, and heck Sandman wasn't even really an evil guy. Now, despite me wanting more to be done with the Boogie man himself, I really enjoyed the characters. Keith and Helena were both pretty miserable, which obviously I can't complain about because that was kind of the point. But I really enoyed seeing Sophie and David from the previous games.Honestly thats basically my favorite part of this, is seeing more of the connections between all the games. The game itself is built just fine compared to the other entries in the seires, although I felt it was easier to get lost in this one compared to the others.Oh I guess I should comment on the voice acting, but I'll be honest when I say it isn't a factor in me having issues with the game. I think it's ambitious, considering it's super rare for games made in RPG maker to have voice acting (I think this series is the first to do it) In fact it's rare for indie games to have voice acting at all since it IS a lot of work. Obviously some of the voices took getting used too. I personally think the worst was Helena, she was too quiet and sounded like she was trying to record for a cute ASMR video... But beyond that, it didn't really bother me. And I'm enjoying the voice acting even more in Hanged man, so bold move!So yeah, that's about it. I'd recommend playing this if you're wanting to complete the series or maybe if you're like me and try any good RPG maker game you find interesting.Overall, certainly not a bad experience I just had my expectations a bit high I believe, especially after how much I loved the sort of, twisted whimsy of the Sandman.. I just love it. Its super cool. I remember when I played the free version and it was just amazing! Now I bought this Game and I love it more then before!
